Singapore Airlines’ regional arm SilkAir will go non-stop on all flights between Singapore and both Cairns and Darwin from later this year in a move that cuts hours from the journey time to and from the Lion City.
The Virgin Australia partner already flies to northern Australia but in a triangular pattern on selected days of the week, forcing Darwin residents to backtrack via Cairns before turning around continuing their journey onward to Singapore.
Come May 30 2016, the stopovers disappear with direct Cairns-Singapore and Singapore-Cairns flights running on Mondays, Thursdays and Saturdays and non-stop Darwin-Singapore services on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays.
SilkAir will continue to fly its Boeing 737-800 aircraft to both cities, complete with reclining leather seats – although not flat beds – in business class…
… where guests can enjoy complimentary meals with wine, wireless inflight entertainment via the SilkAir Studio platform and more.
Virgin Australia Velocity members can earn Velocity frequent flyer points and also status credits with travelling on most fare types with both SilkAir and Singapore Airlines.
