Qantas has released its new app for Windows smartphones, offering a start-to-finish experience for your flights on the Red Roo.
Developed by Microsoft in partnership with Qantas, this slick-looking app has pretty much all the features you'd expect.
There's mobile checkin...
... which generates a mobile boarding pass on your phone.
The 'push' notifications of check-in times plus flight status which appears as a live tile on your phone's screen are especially handy.
You can even 'pin' individual flights to your start screen to help juggle multiple segments of a trip.
The app can also use your phone's GPS to detect your current location and tell you when it's time to leave for the airport "by factoring in the estimated travel time required to get to the airport." We're not sure we'd trust an app for that.
There's also information on Qantas lounges...
... and on top of all this, Qantas has also added a little social networking goodness.
Naturally, frequent flyers can keep track of their points and status credits.
At the time of writing the app hasn't yet been indexed into the shopfront of Microsoft's official Windows Phone Marketplace but you can download it directly through this link.

Looks very slick!! I'm holding out hope for a maor update to the iOS app to add a pile of features - it's a bit underwhelming as it is...

Qantas really needs to work on its iPhone app. Obviously this one got ahead thanks to Microsoft who want a local showcase app for Windows Phone 7, but iOS is WAY ahead in popularity and all Qantas offers for the iPhone is a crappy 'frequent flyer' app. And there's nothing for Android at all. QF really needs to get to work on a great iPhone (and iPad) and Android app.
